In March 2023, our Board of Directors approved an exciting new journey to expand our services to Dover, DE. This decision, shared during our monthly public meeting and with our dedicated volunteer base, marks a significant step forward in our mission to support communities in need.

Progress in Dover

Our planning efforts in Dover have been fruitful. We have partnered with local organizations to provide limited clothing supplies upon request. This initial phase allows us to meet immediate needs while we work to establish a robust volunteer base capable of coordinating local donations.

While food distribution in Dover has not yet been established due to funding and volunteer constraints, a new grant for Kent County residents gives us hope. We anticipate beginning limited food services in Dover in the upcoming months, thanks to this vital support.

A Vision for Statewide Expansion

In early 2024, our Board of Directors made the strategic decision to expand our services throughout Delaware, leveraging the successful model we implemented in Milford. This ambitious plan, shared with our volunteers and discussed in our monthly public meetings, aims to extend our reach to all major cities in the state.

To support this expansion and gain statewide recognition, we have applied for a DBA (Doing Business As) under the name “Delaware Advocacy for the Homeless.” However, we will continue to operate under the name “Milford Advocacy for the Homeless” as well, maintaining our established identity in the Milford community.

Importantly, there has been no change to our mission and vision. Our commitment to supporting and empowering homeless individuals remains steadfast as we broaden our impact across Delaware.

However, this expansion will take time. We are committed to establishing volunteer hubs in each major city, ensuring that we have the necessary local resources to support our services before moving forward. This careful approach ensures that we maintain the quality and reliability of our support as we grow.

Following the successful model established in Milford, we decided to adopt a similar approach in Dover.

3. Service Delivery: Our ultimate goal is to begin serving the Dover community without disrupting our ongoing efforts in Milford. By leveraging the experience and knowledge gained from our work in Milford, we aim to establish a seamless operation that benefits both communities.
