Grab an empty jar, place it somewhere special, and join Milford Advocacy for the Homeless for our August Loving-Kindness Challenge! Each day, complete the simple act of kindness listed on our calendar. After you do it, place $1 in your jar. At the end of August, donate the money to MAH so we can keep the loving-kindness going throughout our community.

A smile, a phone call, a shared meal, or a few minutes of listening may feel small, but you never know what someone is carrying. Your kindness could reach a person experiencing loneliness, anxiety, grief, financial stress, or housing instability. It can remind them that they are seen, valued, and not alone. Kindness can also support the giver’s mental wellness by creating a greater sense of connection, purpose, and hope.

Sometimes kindness means asking, “Are you okay?” If someone shares that they are struggling, you do not need to have all the answers. Listen without judgment and remind them that support is available. Anyone experiencing emotional distress or simply needing someone to talk with can call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Support is available 24 hours a day, and it is free and confidential.

Invite your family, friends, coworkers, church, or community group to participate. Decorate your jar, share your progress, and encourage others to join you. By August 31, your jar will hold $31, but each dollar will also represent a story, a connection, and a moment when someone chose kindness.

At the end of the month, donate the money in your jar to Milford Advocacy for the Homeless. Your gift will help us continue walking alongside neighbors who need practical support, encouragement, resources, and hope. Together, we can fill August with kindness and remind our community that one small act can make a meaningful difference.
