Moving forward can feel overwhelming when you are facing housing instability, missing important documents, living in a vehicle, or trying to meet basic daily needs. Sometimes the next step is not a big one. It may be gathering paperwork, making one phone call, asking for support, or connecting with someone who will walk beside you.

This July, Milford Advocacy for the Homeless is introducing Pathways, a four-week Monday series designed to share practical information, connect neighbors with helpful programs, and offer one clear action they can take to move forward.

July 6: Pathway to Identification

A current photo ID, birth certificate, or Social Security card may be required to apply for housing, employment, benefits, medical care, banking, and other essential services.

Through MAH’s ID Assist Program, eligible neighbors may receive help with obtaining important identification documents, approved fees, and transportation to participating agencies.

A step you can take: Gather any documents you already have and keep them together in one safe place.

For ID Assist information, call 302-217-3106, Option 5, or email idassist@milfordadvocacyforthehomeless.org.

July 13: Pathway to Safe Housing

Affordable housing can be difficult to find, and waiting lists may be long. Being prepared can help you respond more quickly when an opportunity becomes available.

Important documents may include identification, proof of income, benefit letters, previous landlord information, and copies of housing applications.

Through MAH’s Journey Partners Program, volunteers walk alongside neighbors as they identify needs, create action steps, and connect with available resources.

A step you can take: Create one folder for your housing documents and keep a written list of every property or housing program you contact.

July 20: Pathway While Living in a Vehicle

Living in a vehicle can make everyday needs more difficult, especially during extreme summer heat. Safety, preparation, and connection are important.

Keep water, medications, identification, emergency contacts, hygiene supplies, and a charged phone available whenever possible. Never remain in a closed vehicle during dangerous heat.

MAH may be able to connect neighbors with food, seasonal clothing, hygiene products, identification assistance, refurbished bicycles, and Journey Partner support.

A step you can take: Stay connected with at least one trusted organization and make sure someone knows how to reach you.

July 27: Pathway to Daily Stability

Stability often begins with meeting one urgent need. That need may be food, clothing, identification, transportation, household supplies, or simply having someone who will listen without judgment.

MAH programs provide practical resources and relationship-based support to help neighbors take their next step with dignity.

A step you can take: Choose the most urgent need you are facing this week and ask for help with that need first.

You Do Not Have to Take Every Step Alone

At Milford Advocacy for the Homeless, we are rooted in dignity, compassion, and service. We meet people where they are and walk alongside them as they rebuild their lives.

Follow the Pathways series every Monday in July and share each post with someone who may need encouragement, information, or a connection to support.

For assistance, call 302-217-3106, Option 2, or email mah@milfordadvocacyforthehomeless.org.

One step forward can open the pathway to lasting change.
