Position Summary:

Milford Advocacy for the Homeless is seeking a passionate and organized individual to lead the Bounty to Blessing program, a food recovery initiative aimed at reducing food waste by collecting surplus food from local restaurants, grocery stores, and farms for redistribution to those facing food insecurity. The Bounty to Blessing Program Lead will be responsible for managing food recovery operations, coordinating with community partners, and ensuring the safe and efficient distribution of food to individuals and families in need.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Coordination:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the Bounty to Blessing food recovery program, including planning, logistics, and volunteer coordination.
  • Develop relationships with local food donors, such as restaurants, grocery stores, farms, and food distributors, to secure regular donations of surplus food.
  • Schedule and coordinate regular pickups of surplus food and ensure that all recovered items meet food safety standards.
  • Collaborate with local food pantries, shelters, and community organizations to distribute the recovered food efficiently and fairly.

Community Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with local businesses, donors, and community organizations to support ongoing food recovery efforts.
  • Represent the program at community meetings, events, and forums to raise awareness about food recovery and the impact of the Bounty to Blessing initiative.
  • Organize community outreach efforts, including educational campaigns about food waste reduction and food insecurity.

Volunteer Management:

  • Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers who assist with food pickups, sorting, and distribution.
  • Ensure volunteers follow proper food safety and handling protocols, including transportation and storage requirements.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative environment for volunteers, encouraging participation and retention.

Food Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure that all recovered food is handled, transported, and stored in accordance with local health and safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement food safety training for volunteers and staff involved in the program.
  • Regularly monitor the quality of donated food, discarding any items that are unsafe or unsuitable for distribution.

Program Evaluation and Reporting:

  • Track the volume of food recovered, distributed, and the number of individuals or families served through the program.
  • Collect feedback from donors, recipients, and community partners to evaluate the effectiveness of the program and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare regular reports for Milford Advocacy leadership, documenting program outcomes, successes, and challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with experience in logistics, program coordination, or food service management.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage community partners, volunteers, and donors.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations is preferred.
  • A passion for food waste reduction, community service, and supporting vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to lift and transport food items, including heavy boxes, and a valid driver’s license is preferred.
  • Previous experience with food recovery, food distribution, or non-profit work is a plus.
