Position Summary:
Milford Advocacy for the Homeless is seeking dedicated and reliable Volunteer Drivers to support our various community programs by transporting essential items such as donations, food supplies, and meals. The Volunteer Drivers play a critical role in ensuring that donated items are efficiently moved from donation drop-off locations to storage facilities, delivering food from the Bounty to Blessing program to those in need, and assisting with the transportation of supplies for community events. This is a vital position that helps ensure the timely and safe delivery of resources to support individuals and families experiencing homelessness or poverty.
Key Responsibilities:
Transport Donations and Supplies:
- Pick up donations from designated drop-off locations and transport them to the organization’s warehouse or storage facilities for the In-Kind and Our Daily Bread Teams
- Assist with the delivery of in-kind donations such as clothing, household items, and essential goods to participants of the Welcome Home Program.
- Safely load and unload items, ensuring that goods are handled with care during transport.
Food Recovery and Distribution:
- Participate in the Bounty to Blessing program by picking up surplus food from partner restaurants, grocery stores, and farms.
- Deliver recovered food to local food pantries, shelters, or directly to families and individuals in need.
- Ensure proper handling of food items to meet safety standards, including temperature control when necessary.
Event Support:
- Transport food supplies and equipment to and from community events, including seasonal outreach events that provide free meals, clothing, and services to those experiencing homelessness.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of donation and distribution stations at community events.
Logistics and Coordination:
- Follow assigned routes and schedules for pickups and deliveries to ensure timely and efficient service.
- Communicate with the program leads or coordinators to report on deliveries and any issues encountered during transport.
Qualifications:
- A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry items, including heavier objects such as boxes of donations or food supplies.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with program staff and donors.
- Reliability and punctuality in maintaining assigned schedules.
- A commitment to supporting vulnerable populations with respect, compassion, and care.
- Own a vehicle and willing to use it to transport for MAH
