This winter was one of the most difficult seasons our community has experienced in recent years. Week after week of freezing temperatures led to extended Code Purple activations across our area. For many neighbors experiencing homelessness, these shelters provided warmth, safety, and a place to rest during some of the coldest nights of the year. The Code Purple network is a lifeline during the winter months, and we are deeply grateful for every volunteer, partner organization, and community member who helped make it possible.

Now that the Code Purple season has ended, a new and often unseen challenge begins for many individuals who relied on those shelters. While some people have been able to connect with longer-term housing or support services, many others are once again facing the uncertainty of where they will sleep, how they will stay safe, and how they will meet their daily needs. The transition out of winter shelter can be one of the most difficult times of the year for people living without stable housing.

At Milford Advocacy for the Homeless, we are already seeing a significant increase in requests for help. Individuals and families are reaching out for food, clothing, transportation, home goods, and guidance as they try to navigate the next steps toward stability. Our team is currently receiving a very high volume of calls, messages, and requests for assistance.

We want our community to know that every request matters to us. Each message represents a person who deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. Our team and volunteers are working through requests as quickly as possible, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we respond.

If you or someone you know needs support, we encourage you to visit the Resource Section on our website at www.milfordadvocacyforthehomeless.org. This section includes a collection of local services, support programs, and community resources that may provide immediate assistance.

Even though the coldest months are behind us, the need in our community does not disappear with the winter season. The work of helping neighbors rebuild their lives continues every day. Through compassion, service, and the support of our community, we will keep walking alongside those who need it most.

If you would like to make a difference, consider volunteering or supporting our mission/vision.
